The Hon Amanda Rishworth MP

Minister for Employment & Workplace Relations

In 2007, Amanda Rishworth was elected as the Member for Kingston at 29 years of age.

Amanda is the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.

She has previously served as Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education and Development, Shadow Minister for Youth, Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, Minister for Social Services, and Minister for the NDIS.

Amanda was educated at state schools in Adelaide and was a volunteer swimming instructor and surf lifesaver.

During her university studies, Amanda worked as a sales assistant and developed a strong interest in workplace fairness. She later worked in the trade union movement as a union representative and occupational health and safety trainer.

“Disability at Work: Reasonable Adjustments,

Inherent Requirements, and Risk-Reducing Practice”

Nikki A-Khavari of Higgins Chambers will draw on recent and leading case law to examine the legal and practical requirements for making reasonable adjustments for workers with disability. The session will also explore how employers can minimise discrimination risk and lawfully rely on key statutory exceptions, including inherent or genuine occupational requirements, unjustifiable hardship, and measures reasonably necessary to protect workplace health and safety.

The webinar will be moderated by Dr Ben French, President IRSQ.

This webinar will feature a live Q&A, giving members the chance to engage directly with leading experts in industrial relations.

After a long hiatus and due to popular demand and member requests, we’re bringing the IRSWA Advocacy Course back in 2026!

The course is designed for human resources, industrial relations practitioners and lawyers to develop and enhance their skills in the art of advocacy.

With WA Commission members adjudicating and supported by interstate facilitators (Chris O’Grady KC and Leigh Howard, Vic Bar) who run this course for other IR societies, the return of this course to WA is not to be missed
